How to: Velvet!

A lot of things that I hated earlier have made their comebacks this season. Bell bottoms and velvet top my list. Bell bottoms made me look much skinnier and velvet, well I never liked it. I thought it was the worst of fabrics and was so OTT. Funny how you change with time right?

Now bell bottoms seem to be taking over my wardrobe one piece at a time and velvet too is finding its way. Well velvet definitely is one of the most beautiful fabrics we have, and I took my sweet time to realise that.

Fusion wear with Dimple.Amrin!

Fusion wear comes naturally to me.

Why you ask?

Well, growing up me and my brother could only buy two pairs of clothing a year and we always picked casual fun looking clothes and wore the same to every outing and party. I did feel out of place when I’d go to a wedding and all the other girls I knew  wore the most extravagant lehengas and shararas and I stood there like a fool in acid washed pants.

How to: Quirky Bags!

Good bags are a luxury!

It took me about 20 years to realise how important bags could be. I always though clothes and shoes matter, but accessories and bags? Not so much. What an idiot! Good bags and accessories can take any look from rags to riches and I understand now.

In the last year I have invested more in bags than anything else. From just two bags that I would carry around everyday, I now have types of bags. Yes ‘types’! From totes, to clutches, to bagpacks and all other names I am not even aware of.

Quirky bags have been the talk of the town for quite sometime now. Don’t we all just love them? Bags shaped as so many things, from a ball to an icecream cone, from lips to a huge eye! Everything’s possible. Sometimes they also come in rad prints that will suddenly make you famous in the next party you attend.

STEAL FROM YOUR MAN!

“I have nothing to wear!”

Story of our lives.

With a wardrobe stuffed with clothes, I still find it hard sometimes to find what to wear and I know most of you go through the same thing. It has always been the same. As kids, me and my brother only received two pairs of clothes a year and we were never happy. But now, even when my wardrobe door is almost jammed, I still throw a fit at times on how I have nothing appropriate. Haha. I think that’s how it will always be. Not to forget that we still manage to dress fabulous even after all of this drama.

But, as crazy as we can get, we are never tired of new clothes. So today I am going to talk about how to get some more. Steal from your man. Now that man can be your father, brother, friend, boyfriend, husband or even the men’s section of a store!

I have always been a fan of androgynous clothing. I love how comfortable and fun it can be! Since times immemorial, I have shopped from stores meant for men. The t-shirts are my favourite. We never get such rad prints on t-shirts meant for the ladies, ugh. I mean, can’t a girl enjoy some witty graphics or pictures on her chest? Sure, we can!

How to:Make work wear easy!

I didn’t go to office today. Why? I had to write a blog on easy-going work wear. See the irony? Haha. Okay, as the title already suggests we are going to talk about work wear today. I don’t do it much and the reason is that I myself do not have a lot formal clothing in my wardrobe. But I realized that it is time I do.

Most of us think that a simple jeans and shirt do fine for office. They do, but personally I feel that we should put a little more thought in what we wear to office. They say if we wear the right clothes to the right places, people take us seriously. And who wouldn’t want to be taken seriously at the work place. Power dressing speaks for itself. Clothing makes a huge difference and we all know that.

Now, you know I am a fan of versatile clothing and love it if I can wear my pieces to different places. I decided to pick up two pieces from Miss Chase clothing that are not only perfect for work but also the after work fun, if you may. Or else you can go home and eat popcorn in the same like I do. Also, if you haven’t heard about Miss Chase, what are you doing? I love the little yet strong collection they have for the ladies of all ages.  I will provide a link below so you can check too. For now, we’ll let their clothes speak.

How to: Style a Saree, part 04.

Yeah I know this one took a lot of time. Why? I have been sick for the past three days straight. Maybe you care, maybe you don’t but we are here for something else! This fourth look is very close to my heart. To most of you, it will come out as funny, stupid and ‘oh-she-is-trying-too-hard’ kind. For me it is so ME. If you have followed my blog you know about my love for casual sporty looks.

So my fourth and last reason for having done this series is that sarees too can be an everyday casual thing. I know they’re hard and such a fuss but can be tried and honestly after having worn a saree this whole day for the shoot I was so comfortable in it by the end that it seemed like another piece of everyday clothing. My mother wears saree 365 days a year! No, I’m not kidding.

So before we dig in please do take a look at the three other ways I styled this saree in, here Part 01, Part 02 and  Part 03.

How to: Style a Saree, part 03.

The third contemporary way I wore my saree.

Let me give you my third reason before we move ahead. The only couple of times I’ve ever worn a saree, I was always worried about the blouse. The blouse has to be breath taking, isn’t it? Being the size that I am, I could never even borrow from somebody else. Such a hassle!

Now? Now it doesn’t matter because now I know that a blouse doesn’t have to be a ‘typical’ saree blouse. It can anything from a crop top, a shirt, a tee-shirt to a blazer like I wore in the previous part of this series. If you haven’t checked the first two ways I styled this saree in, take a look here: Part 01 and Part 02.

So yes, today is to showing that you do not need a ‘normal’ blouse for a saree. So don’t get worked up for that impromptu function or ‘oh! The tailor ruined my blouse’ , try anything that you think may go with the saree. I chose a to wear a bardot top in my first part, a  blazer in the second and this time I am wearing a bell sleeved printed top.

RihannaXPuma

Surprise! Surprise!

I know, I know, today was supposed to be the third look with the saree day. Right? Yeah. But I thought of sharing a little last minute surprise with you guys. And of course, the saree looks will be out soon too!

So let me tell you what’s happening here. First, Rihanna is now the Creative Director for Puma. Do we need a reason for that? I guess not. Second, Myntra and Puma are holding a contest where in the best Rihanna inspired looks will get great surprises and the top two entries will get to go to the US to meet Rihanna in person! Don’t you sing I love the way you lie because this is not one. The best part is, YOU can participate to. I will give you all those details in the end.

Here I am sharing with you my own entry for the contest. The look had to be inspired by Rihanna. But instead of copying her style I decided to take here sense, her vision. She likes it bold, experimental and out-there.

So I went for an all white look with a white Puma tee, a Puma cap and a pait of white jeans. Now, I needed to represent India here. The ethnicity and culture here and I apologise if I haven’t done it in the best way but I decide to go for some Indian jewelry. Well actually, a lot of it. Lot a gold. My shoes also happen to be zari embroidered peeptoes. Beat that!

How To: Style a Saree, part 02.

Today I am supposed to be telling you the second reason why I’m doing this series right? Thank fully I have it right here, on the palm of my hands. This is because I very strongly believe in it and it is a great change that I am anticipating will take the world over, sooner or later.

Minimal statement jewelry. Yes! Yes, you read that right. Somehow by default, when we hear the word statement jewelry we instantly imagine those huge, detailed, heavy and “not-everyday” pieces we see and wear only occasionally. However this is not true. Not true to my belief at least. For me statement jewelry has to be anything that is a conversation starter, people have to turn around for a second look and simply makes a statement everywhere it goes. And of course, such statement pieces can be minimal. Today I’ll show you what I’m talking about.

A few months ago during the Amazon India Fashion Week I came across a designer Vrindaa and her label Silvense. According to her, her designs manifest freedom and individuality, which is very much visible. I love how contemporary yet grounded the collection is. It is for the modern, fierce, independent woman we have today.
